About Susan Patterson

Susan Patterson is an oil painter, watercolorist and printmaker. Born in Montreal, Canada, her interest in art was inspired early by her mother who was a professional artist. Her style developed during a career in the graphics design departments with Bell Canada and the Canadian Printing Industry.

Patterson’s style is loosely representational with a focus on the figure. She moved from the Boston area to Rhode Island in1998 and studied at the MFA in Boston and the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) where she obtained her certificate degree in Painting and Drawing. In 2000 she participated in her first successful group gallery venue in Boston and has subsequently exhibited throughout the New England area.  She was elected as an artist member of the Providence Art Club, the Art League of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. This is Patterson’s third print portfolio project with the Providence Art Club.

Printmaking has largely informed my work since 2010 and become a major component of my portfolio.  It has improved my drawing and composition skills and I enjoy the process. I am inspired by Millet, Sorolla, Sargent and Wyeth.
