About Susan L. Hardy

Susan Hardy is a career artist working in abstract modalities that journal her life experiences. Her paintings become her journals, emblems that identify the places visited and symbols that mark an experience. Living in West Africa for ten years is one ingredient for much of her inspiration, as well as the ever changing landscape and view of the world on long-distance hiking trips. Her recent work emphasizes drawing, printmaking and book art. The disparity of marginalized groups especially in reference to the American slave trade come to the surface. Like her life the Art rambles in many directions never staying the course nor formulaic. She is collected widely by private as well as corporate entities. American, b. 1950. Education: Corcoran School of Art, Washington, DC; American University, Washington, DC; Leeds Polytechnic Institute, Leeds, England (summer) 1974; Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland (Magna Cum Laude) 1974.
